Taking advantage of the long weekend, and wanting to get Lucy into some snow, we decided on a short trip up to the most likely spot to easily access the powder: Mt. Whitney/Lone Pine.
We don’t typically stay in campgrounds any more but with it being free and there being a lack of dispersed sites with fire rings nearby, we spent the night for the third time at the beautiful USFS Lone Pine Campground. Lucy was amped up and enjoyed a sprint through the campground just before dark, hopping on rocks and around the creek.
The next morning involved a short drive to the base of Whitney Portal Road which is closed in winter, and a 1.5 one-way hike up to the main event: snow! Lucy was pumped to rub herself in the icy snowpack, and bopped around. Unfortunately with there not being a great turnaround it took some convincing to get her to come back down.
It was a fairly uneventful trip, but a good short getaway regardless.
